“And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.” – Numbers 13:33
As a youth, I loved to watch boxing. Especially when Muhammad Ali would box others. “Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee,” was one of my favorite phrases spoken by him. Each time he boxed someone, he would also state that he was the champion even before the fight began. He would proclaim which round the opponent’s utter demise was going to take place. I loved the fact that even if he appeared to be smaller than his opponent, the level of confidence he exuded overshadowed any height difference.
Some of his opponents were larger than him, but they feared him because of the confidence he exuded in his ability to reign victorious over them. Can you believe that these well esteemed boxers would enter the ring already mentally defeated? Many of you enter the ring mentally defeated because you rehearse your demise by saying things to yourself such as “I can’t do this because no one has ever showed me how to do it,” “I am not good at math,” “No one likes me so they will not support me,” “I don’t have enough money to start my own business,” “I have to put my life on hold because I have to raise my kids,” “No one is going to love me because of all the stuff that I did in my past,” etc.
Entering the ring known as “life” in this manner is a sure way to lose the battle when you have been given the ability to win. Don’t be like the Israelites that saw themselves as “grasshoppers” i.e. incapable of accomplishing the mission and thus; dictated to their enemies how they should view the Israelites. You set the tone for how others will receive you. Just like Muhammed Ali, make sure your vision is corrected and functioning properly so that others will see what you see and act accordingly. Seeing yourself small will cause you to miss the big destiny that God has planned for you because you would fail to make the faith required moves necessary to achieve it. There is a gate that leads to life. You choose the life that you shall experience.

This book is designed to help parents recognize things that they may be doing that burn out their support network, provide additional resources and tips to extinguish the fire once it starts. Everyone needs help sometimes. It’s imperative that you don’t burn it out.
